Computer Network
All the apartments in houses B and C are connected to the computer network
of the University of Helsinki. All students with a valid user ID and a
user contract have the right to use the net. All the computers connected
to the network must be registered by sending the 12-digit Ethernet address
to the University Computer Services.
When registered the computer is given an IP-address.

How
to connect to the network
Important! The tenant must buy one's own
network-card and cable.
Getting the required equipment
Get a network-card (Ethernet 10/100 with a RJ 45 plug-in) and a network
cable (RJ45, regular, not with the cross connection). Make sure that the
cable is long enough to reach from the computer to the plug.
Network services
The University Computer Services provides the tenant primarily only with
a connection to the university's network including name- and routeservices,
DHCP/BOOTP-services and connection to FUNET and via it to the Internet.
The student can also access the University's network resources entitlement.
