Tenant Committee
Domus Academica's tenant democracy is practised by the tenant committee,
whose job is e.g. propose the amount of tenement funds collected and its
use according to the annual budget. The committee prepares Domus Academica's
part of HYY's annual budget and through its representative is eligible
to participate in the meetings of HYY's Real Estate Board concerning tenant
related matters.
The committee has also a right to review HYY's budget regarding the allocations
affecting Domus Academica.
The committee is selected from the tenants of Domus for a one-year period
at a time and it meets about once a month. The election is in the beginning
of November and all tenants are eligible to run for the committee. It
consists of four members and two vice members. In addition two representatives
are elected to HYY's Real Estate Board.
Tenement funds and activities
The tenement funds cover the expenses for the Alhalla recreation room
and two weekly sauna hours. In addition, the funds can be used to support
recreational activities for the tenants. Grants can be applied from the
committee for instance for club activities, sporting events, excursions
and get-togethers.
The tenant committee proposes the amount of tenement funds collected.
The amount is included in the rent and paid in connection with it.
Any tenant can organise a club or other activities. Grants are given
only to activities that are brought to the notice of all tenants (e.g.
on the billboards in the corridors) at least one week prior to the event.
At least five tenants must participate in the event. Grant applications
are submitted to the committee members.
