All matters concerning renting and living in the apartments of Domus
Academica are handled by HOAS.

Right of tenancy
All degree students of the University of Helsinki are eligible for living
in Domus. Priority is given to students starting their studies and come
from outside the Helsinki region.
PLEASE NOTICE! Subletting or renting Domus
Academica's apartments to a third party is strictly forbidden. The lease
is personal and the right of tenancy cannot be transferred to another
person. Any misconduct will result in the termination of lease.
Period of tenancy
The maximum time of living in Domus Academica is five years.
HOAS, in charge of renting the apartments, checks the right for tenancy
once a year. To live in Domus, 18 credits are required from a tenant per
an academic year. After graduation the tenant is allowed to live in Domus
a maximum of six months.
Moving out
After you have moved out, the maintenance company checks that the room/apartment
is in good condition and the final cleaning has been done properly. Precondition
for getting back the paid guarantee is, that the room/apartment is in
the same condition as it was when the tenant moved in and the room/apartment
is cleaned according to following instructions:
The floors must be swept or vacuumed and then mopped. Bathroom floors,
walls, the sink and the toilet seat must be cleaned. The cooker/oven and
the refrigerator must be cleaned and the freezer must be defrosted. All
the surfaces in the kitchen must be cleaned. Windows of the room/apartment
must be washed. Both the room/apartment and the storage room must be emptied
completely. If the maintenance company has to carry something out afterwards,
the tenant will be charged.
Transfer of right of occupancy
The tenant can ask for temporary transfer of right of occupancy from HOAS
on basis of military/civil service or exchange studies abroad.
Summer housing for the tenants of house D
From June 1st untill August 31st Domus Academica's house D hosts a summer
hostel. When possible, the tenants of house D studying in the summer are
offered an alternative accommodation in other Domus' Houses, in Ida Aalbergin
tie or in the other HOAS apartments. HOAS sends an inquiry about the need
of summer accomodation for the tenants in March-April.
